Prospective Students
I welcome enquiries from prospective PhD students whose background aligns with my research interests. Applicants must have a strong background in operations research, computer science, applied mathematics, optimization, algorithms, artificial intelligence, industrial engineering, or related fields. Applicants must also have strong coding skills in C, C++, or Rust, or ability to learn.
All applicants must meet the minimum eligibility criteria for admission. Funding for PhD students falls into the following categories:
- Australian domestic applicants: Domestic PhD students are funded through Australian Government programs, and scholarships are readily available.
- International applicants who are self-funded or externally funded: Students may be supported by personal funding, employer sponsorship, government scholarships from their home country, or other external funding bodies. Students usually apply for admission to a PhD program at Monash University and then use their admission letter to apply for a scholarship from their government.
- International applicants applying for a scholarship from Monash University: Internal scholarships are extremely competitive. Applicants must have at least two publications in Q1 journals or CORE rank A or A* conferences. You can check these metrics using SCImago Journal Rank and CORE Conference Rankings. These are minimum requirements for consideration and do not guarantee a scholarship offer.
Information about Monash University international scholarships and some government scholarships can be found at the Monash international student scholarship page. Department internal deadlines are around 4 to 6 weeks before the deadlines shown there.
If you are considering applying, please email me with a brief introduction, your CV, academic transcripts, and a short statement describing your research interests, why you would like to work with me and some potential topics.
